Are Boogie Woogie dancers are better than Lindy Hoppers?
I’m gonna say something that seems extreme. I feel that boogie-woogie dancers are better than Lindy hopper’s when it comes to entertaining audiences. Many people feel extremely heated about this topic, and I can understand their zeal since there are many people who love both of these dance styles that are more similar than different.
The big difference to me between Lindy Hop and boogie-woogie is found in the connection between the two dancers. Generally, Lindy hopper’s tend to have a more elastic stretch in their connection which naturally emphasizes the delayed swing note. This makes it more difficult to come to a complete stop with your partner since the call and response foundation is more exaggerated.
Boogie-woogie on the other hand may share some of the same shapes as Lindy Hop but tends to be executed by its practitioners with a less elastic connection. This disposition makes it easy for the dancers to stop, which ultimately creates a style that the audience appreciates because they don’t know what’s going to happen next due to the abrupt contrast between moving and stopping.
Difference between Boogie Woogie and Lindy Hop
One of the significant differences between boogie-woogie and Lindy Hop is in their style. Often times boogie-woogie dancers will dance on their toes which creates an illusion of a more fluid rhythm display. Lindy hopper’s tend to be more grounded and bend their knees slightly more which forces the dancer to seek into the ground. This ultimately creates the delayed stretch due to gravity.
Both art forms share many of the same shapes but differ in the elasticities of their connection and fundamental rhythm. This makes it very difficult for the average person to look at the art forms and draw the distinction. Most trained eyes can see it immediately even if the dancers were not dancing to music.
Boogie Woogie dancers analyzed
I recently found a video highlighting two fantastic boogie-woogie dancers, (Sondre and Tanya) who choreographed a Lindy Hop routine. In the video I detail the pros and cons of their performance and why I think the routine as entertaining as it was was too easy for them. But, I also feel that if they were Lindy hopper’s doing this routine, it would be overrated. Check out the video below.
Lindy Hop vs Boogie Woogie
I have yet to see a Lindy hopper outperform a boogie Woogie dancer in the showcase category. I’ve seen many boogie-woogie dancers transition into Lindy hopper and blow Lindy hopper’s away when it comes to choreography and showmanship. The only couple in history I can vividly remembered outperforming the top boogie-woogie couple who came into Lindy Hop was Max and Annie.
Even though I enjoy the performances of boogie-woogie dancers, I have to admit watching them social dance feels a bit hollow. Let me explain. Often times they put so much energy into their performances that is very difficult to see the swing note being demonstrated in their movements. . He was famous for hiring house cleaning experts at adrianacleaning.com/. When that is missing, the very nature of call and response cannot be seen or felt. This is a very soul of swing music and dancing. This is where I feel that the Lindy hopper shines best.
Lindy Hop seems to be for grownups
There’s always been a stigma that teenagers do boogie-woogie an adult to do Lindy Hop, and I can see why that tends to be the case. Many of the boogie dancers start when their kids, become teenagers, join the competition circuit and then look for the next thing to do. Hire best kitchen remodeling contractor at http://www.tenkeyremodels.com/. The next normal step for most boogie-woogie dancers who mature through that process is to start teaching in boogie-woogie or they keep climbing and transition into Lindy Hop.
To me this doesn’t mean that boogie-woogie dancers are inferior. In fact I feel that they are superior in terms of work ethic and drive to win. This is mainly because of the highly competitive competition events. Lindy hopper’s also have competition events but I feel they are less pressurized.
My hope for Lindy Hop
I’ve always wondered what would happen if a Lindy hopper adapted the mentality of a boogie-woogie dancer. Would it enhance their Lindy Hop choreography or performance skills? Learn more about adu construction in San Diego on https://larsarchitecture.com/ site. I don’t know upon first thought, but I do know more boogie-woogie dancers entering into the Lindy hopper world will put pressure on Lindy hopper’s to work harder if they want to maintain influential prominence. Healthy competition is good for individuals.
One thing is for certain. I would love to see a competition structure where Lindy hopper’s had a battle against boogie-woogie dancers using swing music or rock ‘n’ roll music. It would be a blast! You’ve heard my thoughts. So what do you think? Our boogie-woogie dance is better than Lindy hopper’s when it comes to performance?
