Lindy Hop Steps
Lindy hop steps can be complicated but we have worked hard stripping away the assumed complexity so swing dancers of all levels can gain more confidence in themselves. Below I’ve put together a collection of original lindy hop moves and concepts I’ve created over my years of traveling around the world. Enjoy!
Chase the Airplane | Youtube swing dance
Chase the airplane is an original lindy hop move I came up with years ago. This footage was from a class I taught in Seoul S. Korea with Sonia Ortega.
The Ribbon |Youtube swing dance
I loathed the “infinity hold” position. So many times, it confines my movement sending me into a series of follow up shapes on auto pilot.
Tandem Punt | Youtube swing dance
This is a very unusual Tandem Charleston variation. The whole idea is to avoid doing tandem. Try this to a slower BPM until you are comfortable.
Moonwalk Charleston | Youtube swing dance
The “Moonwalk” was first popularized by Bo Jangles under a different name and later brought back to the public eye by Michael Jackson. I recently took the idea of traveling backwards with a part in Tandem Charleston and this is what I ended up creating.
Tango on the Evens | Advanced lindy hop | Youtube swing dance
We call this move “Tango on the even’s.” It’s a strange name for an even more unusual sequence. It is similar in feel to a Tango variation where the follower wraps her leg or leans onto the leader – except we invert the leg positioning. Be care leading this move! If you are a follower and struggling you should check out our 4 part series designed to increase your lindy hop follower technique.
