Norma Miller is one known as one of the youngest dancers to join “Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers. She was hired in 1934 at age 15, after winning The Harvest Moon Ball context in 1935. Shortly after she toured with the group with the world-renowned Ethel Waters and appeared in the famous lindy hop movie “A Day at the Races.
She later returned for the second time at the Harvest Moon Ball hosted by Ed Sullivan. Norma and her dance partner were invited by Sullivan to perform in his Toast of the Town revue after placing in the top three. She also starred in other vintage film scenes from Keep Punchin’ along with the early 90’s film Malcolm X. For over a decade in the mid 50’s Norma toured with the Norma Miller Dancers and Her Jazzmen which also included Frankie Manning’s son Charles “Chazz” Young.
Norma is also one of the key dancers responsible for impacting the swing revival in the late 1980s after being recognized by her dancing in the film Hellzapoppin’ and is still making an impact on the dance in the 21st century. She is the sole originator of the advanced vernacular jazz line dance called, the “Trickeration.”
